Gifts

I'm one of those people that enjoys giving gifts more than receiving them, and every year I have a favorite or two I can't wait to give out.

This year, I have two. The first is for my sister. She had a horrible year. She found out her husband had a 9 month affair with her best friend. The best friend's husband, BTW, was her husband's best friend. And the two of them were my husband's best friends. Very tangled web with everyone losing in the end. The other couple is back together and none of us speaks with them, and my sister and her husband are attempting to repair the damage. But, like I keep telling her, it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't thing. She's not happy without him, but can't be happy with him knowing what he did. No matter what, if she leaves him or stays, this horrible thing will always have happened.

Before she found out, she gave her best friend a $200 watch and had it engraved "Friendship is timeless." She bought a matching one for herself. This was while the affair was going on, but she didn't know. She still wears the watch, but the friend never, ever wore it, and now she knows why. So, I bought her a Fossil charm bracelet with a watch charm on it, and wrote on the card, "Friendship may not be timeless, but sisters are." She loved it, the watch and the sentiment.

For my 11 year old daughter, she loves oldies, oddly enough. Her favorite is the Beach Boys, and she either listens to them on her own iPod, or borrows her dad's to listen to them sometimes. I found out that they are appearing live at the place we vacation in Florida. (Fotojournalist, that would be the Cocoa Beach Pier) during spring break. We booked tickets for the family to go, and I bought tix for the concert. Her gift has piece of paper that says, "sing Mom and Dad." Then her dad and I will launch into a version of Fun, Fun, Fun I wrote.

Well she got her daddy's iPod

So she could listen to Beach Boys

Seems she forgot all about giving it back

Like she told her old man now

And with the iPod blasting

She sings just as loud as she can now

And shell have fun fun fun

til her daddy takes the iPod away

(fun fun fun til her daddy takes the iPod away)

Well the girls cant stand her

cause she walks looks and sings like an ace now

(you sing like an ace now you sing like an ace)

She makes American Idol sound like the Lawrence Welk show

(you look like an ace now you look like an ace)

A lotta guys try to catch her

But she leads them on a wild goose chase now

(you sing like an ace now you sing like an ace)

And shell have fun fun fun

til her daddy takes the iPod away

(fun fun fun til her daddy takes the iPod away)

Well you knew all along

That your dad was gettin wise to you now

(you shouldnt have liked it you shouldnt have liked it)

And since he took his iPod back

Youve been thinking that your fun is all through now

(you shouldnt have liked it you shouldnt have liked it)

But you can come along with us

cause we gotta a lot of things to do now

Merry Christmas, Lizzie

you're gonna see the Beach Boys sing at Cocoa Beach Pier

I can't wait for her to open it. She's going to flip.
