Columbus Question

Okay, so here's a question ... From just a few replies this morning,
we can already tell most of us think the whole Columbus thing is BS
and that he didn't really discover America. He also seems to be up to
no good according to some. So why is it that it is widely taught in
schools that he did discover America and why do we have a holiday
dedicated just to him when no one believes this line of bull anyway?
