48 Angels Review

I'm getting dangerously close to running out of anytime minutes on my
phone, so I'm doing this the old-fashioned way by writing. I'll have
to start uttering after 9 PM or something.

I saw a preview screener of a movie being released on DVD this
December, 48 Angels. The name conjures up beautiful images, but
instead the film is dark and dank, though well done. An Irish import,
it's hard to understand their heavy brogue at first, and I found I
had to be wide awake to pay attention, although it was worth it.
Seamus is a 9 year old boy with terminal cancer. He decides he needs
a miracle, so he sets out following the martyr path of St.
Columcille, by setting himself adrift at sea and throwing away his
oars. Seamus' hope is to find God before God comes to take him. He
finds two strangers instead, an older teenage boy and a man they at
first assume is dead, but that Seamus thinks could be God himself.
Feeling that the Man is alive, they drag him to safety, and somehow
avoid evoking Weekend at Bernie memories. The Man eventually recovers
and the three stick together as Seamus searches to find his miracle,
and the teenage boy and the Man work on hiding things from their
past. By the end, you're left pondering whether Seamus really found
God or not.

I think everyone will see a different ending, depending on their
beliefs. I belief in fate and everything happening or a reason, so I
think Seamus found God, just not in a physical form. I think either
he was sent to the teenage boy and Man, or they were sent to him. But
again, everyone will see the ending differently. It's a dark, dark
film, but a very interesting one that sets you thinking. It's due to
be released in December on DVD.
